Otis Adelbert Kline (1891-1946) was an American writer and literary agent best known for his contributions to early planetary romance and adventure fiction. Writing during the pulp era, Kline produced a series of interplanetary tales set on Mars and Venus that combined swashbuckling action with exotic landscapes and heroic quests.Often compared with contemporaries such as Edgar Rice Burroughs, Kline developed his own brand of high-energy speculative adventure, marked by daring protagonists, alien civilizations, and richly imagined worlds. His novels, including The Swordsman of Mars and The Outlaws of Mars, helped shape the conventions of early space fantasy and planetary exploration narratives.In addition to his fiction, Kline worked as a literary agent representing numerous pulp-era writers. Though less widely known today than some of his peers, his work remains a vivid example of the imaginative ambition and storytelling momentum that defined early twentieth-century science fiction.
