America's moment has passed-or so the world believes. As allies slip away and enemies sharpen their ambitions, Washington clings to comforting illusions-blind to the storm gathering just beyond the horizon. One man is not fooled. Jacob P. Slake, founder of the tech empire Q Corp, wagers everything on a secret plan to prevent global collapse. He pays for it with his life, dying aboard a colossal spacecraft as it touches down on the Moon. In the aftermath, the burden falls to his widow, Jayne Winstel Walker-an unlikely leader thrust into a role that could determine humanity's future. With only a small circle of trusted insiders-a wily general, a principled engineer, and a gregarious lawyer-she must lead a mission designed not to rule the world, but to save it. As China presses its advantage across a weakened Eurasia and the United States awakens to a world it can no longer control alone, old alliances fracture, loyalties shift, and Jacob's plan begins drawing together people and powers that were never meant to align. At the heart of it all stands Alfred P. Slake, Jacob's son, propelled by love and legacy into the depths of Russia-and into a reckoning that could alter the balance of power.
Peter Policastro is a scientist, inventor, entrepreneur, and author whose career has been spent turning possibilities into realities. He earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from MIT, where his interdisciplinary research began a career spanning scientific discovery, biotechnology, invention, entrepreneurship, and academia.Writing, however, began much earlier. Policastro has written poetry and prose since childhood and participated in creative-writing communities around Duke and Rutgers Universities in the 1970s. In 1977, he was accepted into Boston University's MFA program in creative writing. He left after less than a semester, concluding that he had not yet lived enough to call himself a writer.Nearly five decades later, his debut novel, The Moon Detente, brings those two paths together. Policastro writes speculative fiction with a scientist's fascination for what may be possible, an inventor's understanding of how ideas become realities, and a lifelong interest in what happens to people when technology, power, loyalty, and human desire collide.
