Rumena Buzarovska nació en 1981 en Skopje, actual capital de Macedonia. Es profesora de Literatura Americana y Traducción en la Universidad Estatal de Skopje, y codirige el proyecto literario PeachPreach, centrado en contar historias que dan voz a las mujeres. Es autora del libro de no ficción Next to God, America, que explora la cultura y la sociedad estadounidenses; de la novela Tony, de reciente publicación; así como de cuatro colecciones de relatos cortos que han sido traducidos a varios idiomas. Mi marido (2014; Impedimenta, 2023) gozó de gran éxito en toda Europa y ha inspirado varias adaptaciones dramatizadas. Buzarovska colabora en varios periódicos y revistas dentro y fuera de su país, y ha traducido al macedonio a autores como J. M. Coetzee, Lewis Carroll, Truman Capote y Flannery O'Connor.
