Sri Lankan food was ranked #1 on the BBC Good Food 15 food trends for 2019. A recent piece in the Guardian is called "Sri Lankan Food is Finally Cool; Don't Tell My Mum." Bon Appetit just ran a piece about the Sri Lankan food truck, Tuk Tuk Sri Lankan Bites, based in Kentucky.There are actually very few books on Sri Lankan cuisine available on the market right now.The Sri Lankan community in North America is large, with the largest communities in New York, New Jersey and Los Angeles, and Houston.The Sri Lankan community is very tight-knit, and we will be reaching out to Sri Lankan Community organizations in order to market the book.We will also reach out to key online food publications like Eater.com (specifically Eater.com Seattle), Edible Seattle, Kitchn, and podcasts like The Splendid Table.This book is beautifully designed, full of gorgeous food photography but also vintage illustrations and ephemera like old postcards, handwritten recipes, and family photos.The recipes are unique-think pineapple curry, cashew curry, and pumpkin curry, but also very approachable.Introduction is full of step-by-step information on how to prep Sri Lankan spices, and where to get unique ingredients like jackfruit or pandan leaf here in North America. Ruwanmali Samarakoon-Amunugama learned to cook Sri Lankan food from her mother and grandmother. Her knowledge of South Asian foods and ingredients has been further enhanced by numerous trips to Sri Lanka and other parts of Asia. Born in Mississauga, Ontario, Ruwan graduated from Simon Fraser University and has lived in British Columbia, Alberta, Ottawa, and Washington state.
