In 1994 Jane Doe, a queer woman of color, was the victim of a stranger rape in Brooklyn, New York. A reporter broke the story with the speculation that the crime was fabricated for political amplification, inciting a media smear campaign. Author S. A. Mathers became the lead case investigator two decades later, fighting for justice for Doe.
S. A. Mathers is a retired First Grade Detective, and she spent fourteen of her twenty-year career with the NYPD investigating some of New York City's most violent and high profile sexual assault cases. Mathers holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice and is a former adjunct professor at Farmingdale State College and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Sarah has been recognized by New York City Counsel and by Detective Endowment Association for her work on sexual assault cases. She was also a team detective for the Harvey Weinstein investigation.
