The nuclear industry employs around forty thousand people in France, half of whom are subcontracted. The protagonist of this novel, Yann, is one of those temporary employees who is dedicated to cleaning work. The Central is a novel about precariousness, uncertainty and fear told with enveloping and hypnotic prose.
