Entre Hipocrates Y Socrates

Hippocrates and Socrates were contemporaries in Athens, but we do not know if they ever met. In any case, they could have found topics for debate, because medicine deals with the ills of the body and philosophy, those of the soul. Both disciplines must constantly confront questions about life and death that go beyond the strict scope of science: What is life? How do we deal with death? Are the care we can apply always permitted and morally justifiable? Starting from the premise that direct dialogue between medicine and philosophy is not only desirable but necessary, Serge Daneault and Jean Grondin, through a totally current and accessible conversation, convince us of the relevance of exploring timeless themes in order to revitalize them and thus contribute to our understanding of the human condition.

Serge Daneault es médico y profesor en la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Montreal. Ha ejercido la medicina paliativa a domicilio en el servicio de cuidados paliativos del CHUM (Centro Hospitalario de la Universidad de Montreal) y en CHSLD (Residencias para cuidados de larga duración). Por otra parte, continúa investigando sobre el sufrimiento y los servicios de salud.
