Someone did something to you. You can tell the story you have told it, probably more than once. But the story you can tell is about them. What they did, when, and what it cost. Which is true, and it is also the version that gets heavier every year, because nothing else is in the frame. This book puts something else in the frame. Twenty doors into your own history with it. Not "look for the silver lining" there may not be one. Instead:- The day you found out- Someone who believed you- Someone who didn't- A night it kept you awake- A time you wanted them to pay- Justice that never came- Something you have now that they tried to take You pick a door and you write the situation as it actually was, what you were afraid of, what you did, what happened, and what you only saw afterwards. Then one sentence about who God is, and one sentence said to Him. Then the chapter stops. No lesson at the end, and no line drawn from what He did then to what you are carrying now. That distance is not a workbook's to close. What this book will not do It will not tell you to forgive them. Being instructed by a book at this point is unlikely to do anything, and it is not what this is for. One door asks about a time you found you were no longer holding something because that happened, and it is worth remembering but it is a memory, not a demand. It will not tell you it wasn't as bad as you think. If someone wronged you, they wronged you. The question here does not require the wrong to be shrunk first. And it does not promise that they will be exposed, or sorry, or dealt with. One chapter is about justice that never came, and the page is allowed to stay empty. Psalm 77 is a man in trouble, deliberately going back through what God had already done. Psalm 73 is a man watching the wrong people get away with it and taking that to God rather than to anyone else. Neither of them tidies it. A relationship is made of history. A God you can't remember in specifics is a God you only believe in. You will need a notebook. This is a book to work, not to read. Part of the Remember What He Did series.
