Somnauth Narine is a Guyanese-born writer who holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in education. He has published an anthology of short stories, a children's book, several screenplays, and three novels. Four of his screenplays have been converted into independent movies: Brown Sugar Too Bitter for Me (Parts 1 and 2), Forgotten Promise, and Protection Game. His novels include Rage from the Backwater, which was awarded the Guyana Prize for Literature 2023—Second Prize for Best Book of Fiction, and The Return of the Salmon. Ripples from a Broken Soul is his third novel.
He is a retired New York City Public School teacher and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
