Beschreibung

Portrait

Julio Antonio Blasco, Sr. López, was born in 1971 in Valencia, Spain. He is an illustrator and graphic designer with a degree in Fine Arts. His work moves between illustration, painting, collage, digital art, design, and even sculpture made from small discarded objects; a back and forth between different fields of creativity. He has illustrated for children in both educational and picture book formats, publishing more than 50 picture books in a multitude of languages and around the world, including Japan, Poland, the United Kingdom, France, China, the United States, Italy, Russia, Germany, Korea, the Netherlands, Croatia, and Ukraine. He has also worked for adults, creating covers. He has developed his creativity in graphic design, exhibition design, audiovisual design, and advertising, for foundations, museums, and wineries, among other clients. He has given talks at conferences and led workshops in design schools and other venues. He currently works as a cultural manager and bookseller with his sister at their illustration-specialized bookstore-gallery, Estudio 64, in Valencia. He was also a small editor for the now-defunct publishing venture Símientes Editores. His work has been recognized on numerous occasions: White Ravens, the São João de Madeira Illustration Biennial, the Junceda Awards, the Anuaria Awards, the Paris la Sciencie Prize, the Ajudaris BIISA International Solidarity Illustration Biennial, and the Edelvives International Illustrated Album Award, among others. In short, he is a curious and restless enthusiast. Stefan Zweig is one of the most widely read authors of the first half of the 20th century and a key figure in understanding the future of interwar Europe. His work, which encompasses novels, short stories, essays, biography, and poetry, is characterized by a delicate depiction of emotions and a firm pro-European spirit in the face of the rise of fascism and Stalinism. Both his life and his work were strongly marked by his exile: in 1936, in the midst of Europe's darkest period, Zweig fled first to London and then to New York, finally settling in Petrópolis, Brazil. Faced with the advances of Nazism in places like Asia and the Middle East, the author believed that Europe was on the verge of its end and, unable to accept the destruction of the continent he had known, took his own life in 1942. Today, we remember Stefan Zweig as an exceptional witness and chronicler of the collapse of the social and political order in Europe during his time.
