Along the way, you'll see how these ancient stories still echo in modern Japan: in Shinto shrines and rituals, seasonal festivals, protective charms and even in the national symbols that represent the country. Rooted in Shinto and Buddhist traditions, ancient legends about spirits, creatures, deities and creation have been recounted by Japanese families from generation to generation. Where once these tales were told to understand the natural world, in the present day, Japanese mythology has expanded beyond its islands and secured an influential place in both modern life and pop culture.
