Son finales de los años sesenta y un pueblo está a punto de ser ahogado porque el gobierno decidió construir ahí una presa. Los habitantes son exhortados, de una u otra forma, a abandonarlo todo y empezar de nuevo en cualquier otro lugar. Poco a poco las familias van sucumbiendo ante lo inevitable, salvo Violeta, quien se rehúsa a partir, abandonar a sus muertas, dejar sus raíces. Es así que ella se convierte en la mirada testigo de todo lo que va sucediendo: la corrupción, la desolación, la tristeza. Con un espejo y un machete, ella camina por las calles del pueblo, por el cementerio, asiste a su trabajo en la iglesia y, sobre todo, resiste. Con una maravillosa voz narrativa, Suzette Celaya Aguilar construye un universo contenido, en el que los personajes deambulan ante una realidad que se les está desvaneciendo, donde las violencias se ejercen desde distintos ángulos y, sin embargo, consigue mantener una luz que amalgama todo el desahucio que se avecina. ENGLISH DESCRIPTION It is the late 1960s and a village is about to be flooded because the government has decided to build a dam there. The inhabitants are urged, in one way or another, to abandon everything and start over somewhere else. Little by little, the families succumb to the inevitable, except for Violeta, who refuses to leave, to abandon her dead, to leave her roots behind. Thus, she becomes the witness to everything that is happening: corruption, desolation, sadness. With a mirror and a machete, she walks through the streets of the village, through the cemetery, attends to her work in the church and, above all, resists. With a wonderful narrative voice, Suzette Celaya Aguilar builds a contained universe in which the characters wander before a reality that is fading away, where violence is exercised from different angles, and yet she manages to maintain a light that amalgamates all the eviction that is coming.

Suzette Celaya Aguilar (Hermosillo, 1982) es narradora, comunicóloga y maestra en Ciencias Sociales. Su primera novela, Nosotras, ganó el Concurso del Libro Sonorense (2020) y el Premio Primera Novela (2023). En 2021 obtuvo el IV Concurso de Cuento Corto de Escritoras Mexicanas. Ha publicado tanto en el ámbito académico como literario. Suzette Celaya Aguilar (Hermosillo, 1982) is a storyteller, communication specialist, and holds a Master's in Social Sciences. Her debut novel, Nosotras, won the Sonorense Book Contest (2020) and the First Novel Award (2023). In 2021 she won the Fourth Short Story Competition for Mexican Women Writers. She has published both academic and literary works.
