Rights available No one would suspect Véronique Maumusson of a classic anti-American allergy. A former journalist for the Le Monde, she married an American and has been living in Los Angeles for fifteen years. Her children were born there. She found a house there, friends, a community, a way of living.
Yet, even after fifteen years, she is still surprised by its culture. By relating her experiences, she shares her doubts and questions with us, but this is no geopolitical essay or study of economics. She talks about everyday life, a life she finds surprising.
Individualism, Puritanism, religion, patriotism, all-powerful money, rampant consumerism, mistrust of the State and a culture of self-centeredness... these are all still sources of amazement to her, and she describes them and their knock-on effects in detail.
