When was the last time you looked up? Our busy lives keep us fixed on our cell phone screens, on the computer or on the asphalt behind the wheel. We say that those who are "in the clouds" are absent-minded or dreamers, but climatologist and atmospheric physicist Vincenzo Levizzani comes to debunk this cliché he has always had his head in the clouds and has turned this fascination into his profession. What does that pink hue in the clouds at sunset mean? Is it true that "sheepish sky" means rain? Why are no two clouds the same? What is nephrology? How is a perfect storm formed? What do ice crystals, those masterpieces of nature, reveal to us? Between droplets, graupel and hail, we will discover the answers to these and other questions, delving into the interior of the clouds to reveal their most intimate secrets. Following in the footsteps of travelers, artists and dreamers who throughout history have looked up in search of inspiration, Levizzani observes the clouds with the eyes of science and from unusual perspectives: not only from the meadow or the vast mountain ranges, but also from the laboratory, the plane, the radar and the satellite. In these pages, he teaches us to read the sky and understand what the clouds are telling us. An invitation to look up and rediscover, with fresh eyes, the wonders that float above our heads. "After reading this book, you will probably never look at the sky again without wondering about it and waiting for the next cloud." Institute of Atmospheric and Climate Sciences. "Curiosity is the spice of scientific research; without it, science becomes an exercise in cataloguing. When looking at a cloud, we are all called upon to marvel at its beauty, but also to understand why it has a certain shape, color or size." R. Bontempi, Giornale di Brescia. "Everything we are interested in about life comes from the water cycle: evaporation, condensation in the clouds, precipitation... atmospheric physics will be one of the professions of tomorrow." M. Garofalo, HuffPost. "A practical and theoretical manual for reading the sky, for entertaining oneself among cirrus, cumulonimbus, cirrostratus, cumulus, cirrocumulus or nimbostratus clouds. Because clouds are poetic, beautiful -- sometimes stormy -- but clouds are also the terrain of physics, chemistry and biology." E. Barbieri, Il Giornale.
