Beschreibung

This handsome hardback edition presents William Shakespeare's classic tragedy, Macbeth, featuring gold cover embossing and gilded page-edges.

Often referred to superstitiously as 'the Scottish play', Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's most celebrated and accessible works. Macbeth is a general in the army of the Scottish king, who one day meets three witches who prophesy that he will one day take his master's place. Spurred on by his wife, Lady Macbeth, he pursues this ambition at great cost. A tumultuous tale of how ambition, guilt and paranoia lead to deceit and murder, it is one of the greatest studies of morality and corruption.

This beautiful pocket-sized gift edition contains the classic, unabridged text, presented with a gold embossed cover design, ivory pages, beautifully designed endpapers and gold gilded page edges. With an introduction and notes by Chris McNab, it makes a wonderful book for study or pleasure.

ABOUT THE SERIES: Arcturus Ornate Classics are beautifully bound editions of iconic literary works across history. These compact, foil-embossed hardbacks are printed using deluxe ivory paper and make the perfect gift.

Portrait

William Shakespeare is perhaps the world's greatest literary figure, famed for his insights into the human condition. Records show that he married Anne Hathaway at the age of 18 and had three children with her. At some point he went to London and joined the theatrical profession, as an actor, playwright, poet and, latterly, theatre manager and impresario. He died in April 1616, aged 52. The body of work left by Shakespeare included 37 plays, four poems and a collection of sonnets.

Over the course of his two-decade career as an author and editor, Chris McNab has written more than 100 titles, on topics ranging from history to popular culture to biography. He holds a Ph.D in English Literature and Theology and some of his recent titles include A History of War, and J. Robert Oppenheimer. He has also written several scholarly introductions to Shakespeare's plays, including Julius Caesar and Much Ado About Nothing. In addition to his writing work, Chris has made regular contributions on radio and television
