El Robinson Urbano (Crónica) / The Urban Robinson (Chronicles)

El Robinson urbano, publicado originariamente en Granada en una edición de escasa difusión en 1984, y reeditado luego en breve tiraje en Pamplona en 1988, es el primer libro de Antonio Muñoz Molina, que muestra ya en plena sazón los rasgos característicos de su estilo y su visión del mundo. Prologada hoy por Pere Gimferrer, se incorpora así por primera vez a un circuito de difusión más amplio esta crónica de la cotidianidad ciudadana que el propio Antonio Muñoz Molina sitúa y define certeramente al escribir en su texto inicial: 'La mejor literatura de la modernidad la han escrito los grandes robinsones urbanos. Para escribir sus Confesiones, De Quincey tuvo primero que morirse de hambre y desolación en las aceras de Oxford Street, madrastra del corazón de piedra. En una América que ya prefiguraba la locura de Metrópolis, Edgar Allan Poe vio en medio de las calles a su criatura más temible: el hombre de la multitud. En París, hacia la mitad del siglo pasado, Baudelaire reunió las voces de Allan Poe y De Quincey y supo reconocer la tiranía del rostro humano infatigablemente repetido en las multitudes y en los espejos de las calles, pero también descubrió el territorio de un vasto paraíso artificial: el placer, absolutamente inédito hasta entonces, de recorrer la ciudad sin ir a parte alguna y sin tener otra compañía que la propia voz en la conciencia.'

El Robinson urbano (Urban Robinson), originally published in Granada in a limited edition in 1984 and later reissued in a small print run in Pamplona in 1988, is Antonio Muñoz Molina's first book, already showcasing the distinctive traits of his style and worldview in full maturity. Now with a foreword by Pere Gimferrer, this chronicle of urban everyday life enters a broader readership for the first time. Muñoz Molina himself defines it in his opening text: "The best literature of modernity has been written by the great urban Robinsons. To write his Confessions, De Quincey first had to starve and despair on the sidewalks of Oxford Street, stepmother of the stone heart. In an America already foreshadowing the madness of Metropolis, Edgar Allan Poe saw in the streets his most terrifying creature: the man of the crowd. In Paris, around the mid-nineteenth century, Baudelaire brought together the voices of Poe and De Quincey and recognized the tyranny of the human face, endlessly repeated in crowds and in the mirrors of the streets. But he also discovered the territory of a vast artificial paradise: the pleasure, entirely novel until then, of wandering the city without going anywhere, with no company but one's own inner voice."

Antonio Muñoz Molina cursó estudios de periodismo en Madrid y se licenció en historia del arte en la Universidad de Granada. Ha reunido sus artículos, reconocidos en 2003 con los premios González-Ruano de Periodismo y Mariano de Cavia, en volúmenes como El Robinson urbano (1984, 1993 y 2003). Su obra narrativa comprende Beatus Ille (1986 y 1999), El invierno en Lisboa (1987 y 1999), que recibió el Premio de la Crítica y el Premio Nacional de Literatura, ambos en 1988; Beltenebros (1989 y 1999); El jinete polaco (1991 y 2002), que ganó el Premio Planeta en 1991 y nuevamente el Premio Nacional de Literatura en 1992; Los misterios de Madrid (1992 y 1999); El dueño del secreto (1994); Nada del otro mundo (1994); Ardor guerrero (1995); Plenilunio (1997); Carlota Fainberg (2000); En ausencia de Blanca (2001); Ventanas de Manhattan (2004); El viento de la Luna (2006) y Sefarad (2001 y 2009).
