The Great Gatsby, published in 1925, has been repeatedly considered the best American novel of the 20th century. The story takes place in New York and Long Island in the 1920s and brilliantly portrays those crazy years of parties, jazz, and debauchery leading up to the Great Depression. Nick Carraway leaves the Midwest and arrives in New York in the spring of 1922, a time of moral laxity and smuggling, when the stock market is soaring. Nick, in search of his own version of the American Dream, lives next door to a mysterious millionaire, Jay Gatsby, who is very popular for his impressive parties. Across the bay live Daisy and her philandering husband, Tom Buchanan.

Francis Scott Fitzgerald (Saint Paul, 1896 - Hollywood, 1940). Considerado uno de los más importantes escritores estadounidenses del siglo xx y portavoz de la 'Generación Perdida'.
