Graciela Montes nació el 18 de marzo de 1947 en Buenos Aires, Argentina. Se crió en Florida, un barrio del Gran Buenos Aires, y muchos de sus relatos transcurren allí. Es profesora en Letras y traductora. En 1980 obtuvo el Premio Lazarillo (Accésit). Fue nominada por la Argentina al Premio Hans Christian Andersen en 1996, 1998 y 2000. En 2005 recibió, junto a Ema Wolf, el Premio Alfaguara por El turno del escriba. Publicó Más chiquito que una arveja, más grande que una ballena, Tengo un monstruo en el bolsillo, La guerra de los panes, Uña de dragón (una historia que son dos), Betina, la máquina del tiempo, Amadeo y otra gente extraordinaria, y la serie Federico, entre otros títulos. En 2018 fue galardonada con el Premio Iberoamericano a su trayectoria.
