Women, Families and the British Army 1700-1880

This collection gathers together a body of texts relating to British soldiers' personal lives, 1700-1800. It combines the observations of officers and government officials with personal memoirs and letters, and also draws extensively on press accounts. This first volume covers the period up to the outbreak of war with France.
