Jerónimo Farré se jubiló en 2022. Fue jefe del Servicio de Cardiología y director de Docencia en el Hospital Universitario Fundación Jiménez Díaz de Madrid, así como profesor titular de Cardiología en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Tras su jubilación, es profesor emérito. El enigma que brotó del fuego es su primera incursión en la ficción literaria. Asegura no ser ninguno de los personajes que protagonizan el relato, aunque reparte sus experiencias vitales entre muchos de ellos. Bibliófilo y apasionado de la historia, la narrativa, la pintura, la música sinfónica y el fútbol, es miembro de la junta directiva del Real Madrid. Es autor de más de cien capítulos en libros de medicina cardiovascular y de más de ciento cincuenta artículos profesionales y científicos, casi todos en inglés. Además, ha pronunciado más de trescientas conferencias como invitado en Europa y América.
