The themes of this book explore paradoxical feelings of American society, especially in New York: the identity void of the so-called suburbs, atrocious racism, neighborhood watch, the imposture of the woke movement, the normalization of daily suicides, the degeneration of much of American academia, mental illness and its labyrinthine solutions, the excruciating loneliness and the tenderness of the unexpected encounters that occur as a result."
Marina Perezagua es licenciada en Historia del Arte por la Universidad de Sevilla. Impartió clases de lengua, literatura, historia y cine hispano-americanos en la Universidad Estatal de Nueva York, donde cursó su doctorado en Filología Hispánica. Tras vivir una larga temporada en Francia y trabajar en el Instituto Cervantes de Lyon, regresó a Nueva York, donde impartió clases de escritura creativa en New York University como Distinguished Writer in Residence. Es autora de las colecciones de relatos Criaturas abisales y Leche. Tras los dos primeros libros de relatos, ha publicado cuatro novelas: Yoro, Don Quijote de Manhattan, Seis formas de morir en Texas (Anagrama) y La playa (Pre-Textos, ganadora del Premio Internacional de Novela Ciudad de Estepona). Recientemente ha publicado su primer poemario: Nana de la Medusa (Espasa). Sus textos han aparecido en diversas antologías y revistas literarias, tales como Granta, Jot Down, Carátula, Cuadernos Hispano-americanos, Sibila, Ñ, Quimera, Renacimiento, Letras Libres, Anfibia. Ha sido traducida en nueve idiomas y su novela Yoro fue galardonada con el Premio Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz 2016. Es colaboradora habitual en El País.
