Oviedo, 1936. Of the entire family, only a boy remains standing. The bombs have erased in an instant everything he knew: the warmth of a kitchen, the voice of his brother or mother, afternoons playing soccer, that kiss. And yet, he cannot stay. Only if he manages to flee will he have preserved his life and his memory. Is that, perhaps, what it means to be saved? SILVIA RIBELLES DE LA VEGA (Oviedo 1969) es licenciada en Filología Inglesa por la Universidad de Oviedo y doctora en Historia por la Universidad de Extremadura. Especialista en las relaciones entre España y Gran Bretaña durante II República y la Guerra Civil, también ha explorado el papel de los comunistas españoles exiliados en la Francia de Vichy y la deportación española a Mauthausen. Fruto de ello son, además de un puñado de artículos académicos, su estudio La Marina Real británica y la Guerra Civil en Asturias (1936-1937) [2008] y sus biografías Luis Montero Álvarez, Sabugo: en los abismos de la historia [2013] y Un diplomático al servicio de Su Majestad: sir George Dixon Grahame (1873-1940) [2021], así como la obra El galeón de Manila. La ruta que cambió el mundo [2023, coescrita con Rafa Codes]. Ha colaborado con el Instituto Cervantes de Los Ángeles y, como conferenciante, con la Armada en España. Forma parte como investigadora del proyecto Newsreels, desarrollado conjuntamente por The Packard Humanities Institute y UCLA Film & Television Archive, que en fechas recientes ha digitalizado la inmensa colección de filmaciones inéditas de la guerra civil española producidas por W. R. Hearst. Reside en Los Ángeles con su familia.
