The Night Plummer & the Mockemortician is an adventure in wordplay through an absurd fantasy world where visards delve into dreams, grasping for meaning to their seemingly pointless lives. Two listless apprentices blunder their way down their respective paths without much thought to where they're going. Agnas, whose path began as an endless loop of picking "night plums", was given a new path to explore but finds she would rather sit in the woods and read. B'Link, a former funeral clown, hasn't quite come to grips with the inevitability of death, but she has a more immediate problem as she's nearing the end of the student's path and isn't ready for the complexities of the road beyond. When their paths cross, it seems like yet another amusing diversion of no consequence, but it may ultimately lead to big changes in both their lives.
Many years ago, Walter met a bird-head man on a mountaintop. They talked for a time in what Walter recognizes in retrospect as a test, not a conversation. Once satisfied, the bird-head man directed him to, "Show your inside world to the outside world." When Walter asked why, the bird-head man merely gestured vaguely at the beauty before them and would say no more. Walter has since followed that advice, and whenever he wonders why, he thinks back to the piercing gaze of that big yellow eye and gets back to work.
