Jorge Ibargüengoitia nació en la ciudad de Guanajuato, México, el 22 de enero de 1928 y murió en Madrid, España, el 27 de noviembre de 1983. Su obra, una de las más importantes y originales del siglo XX, transita por casi todos los géneros: novela, cuento, teatro, artículo periodístico, ensayo y relato infantil. Fue un colaborador incansable de diversos periódicos, revistas y suplementos culturales de gran importancia en el medio cultural de Hispanoamérica. A lo largo de su trayectoria obtuvo varios de los reconocimientos más importantes de su época, como el Premio Casa de las Américas en 1964, el Premio Internacional de Novela México en 1974 y las becas del Centro Mexicano de Escritores, de las fundaciones Rockefeller, Fairfield y Guggenheim. La suma de su trabajo lo sitúa hoy como un autor imprescindible para entender la literatura latinoamericana actual. Jorge Ibargüengoitia was born in the city of Guanajuato, Mexico, on January 22, 1928, and died in Madrid, Spain, on November 27, 1983.
