Based on the Latin American debate on extractivism, historical conditions and inequalities, and the controversial constitution of 2008, the complex power relations on different spatial levels are depicted, linking the central role of the state and its policies with concrete struggles of communities.
Valerie Lenikus (Dr. phil.) works as a senior scientist at the department of political science at Universität Wien. During her doctoral studies she received a scholarship by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). Her research focuses on international political ecology, socio-ecological conflicts, resource politics, extractivism and historical-materialist policy analysis, with a regional focus on Latin America.
