Year round on Martha's Vineyard Island off Cape Cod, Massachusetts, residents and vacationers have played basketball-almost since the game was invented. The Oak Bluffs summer league on the Island was innovative, ethnically diverse, welcomed female players, and fostered thousands of friendships.
